Jason Beddow was a research assistant professor in the Department of Applied Economics at the the University of Minnesota. His research interests were focused on the spatial aspects of agriculture, and how we might better use spatial data to understand agricultural systems. He had a particular focus on the ways in which research investment patterns and natural environments (including pests, diseases, climate and weather) affect agricultural production and productivity, the spatial dynamics of production, and bridging the divide between biology and economics (bio-economics). Beddow worked for InSTePP since 2006, and held a B.S. degree from Texas Tech University, a M.Sc. degree from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota. He worked on the economics of agricultural pests and diseases, international research and development spillover potential, measuring the effects of weather on production, and the effects of location on productivity.
